Drumming

Adelaide wanted to play the drums and insisted her monkey friend drum along with her.

It was -1 degrees when I left for work today. On my way home it was 6 degrees. I am not including windchill. A tough day indeed!

Adventures in Cooking

Adelaide and I had our first real collaboration in the kitchen together, yesterday.
We decided to make cupcakes and turn them into reindeer. Adelaide was in charge of stirring the batter. The batter's thickness and consistency was too strong for Adelaide's grip. That batter sucked up 8(!) forks. One right after another. (It was pretty funny (but, frustrating for Adelaide)).
Adelaide, our picky eater, wasn't at all interested in trying the reindeer out. Patrick, on the other hand, had no trouble. We will spend tomorrow passing our reindeer out to friends and neighbors (and don't worry, they won't be biting into any forks).

Wiped Out

Friday was Adelaide's first day at daycare.
It was only a half-day.
How did she do?
See below.

Clean teeth

Teeth brushing has become a bit trying, so I thought a new tooth brush was in order. Our choices of toddler size brushes: Thomas the Train, scary looking creatures??, race car that made noises, the mermaid and Dora. I sighed (what happened to plain tooth brushes?) and pulled them all of their hooks and let Adelaide pick. She picked Dora.
(There is not much diversity here in our little town, so I was happy to see she picked Dora, the explorer over Arial, the mermaid).

That night, brushing our teeth was a breeze....and Adelaide took her new toothbrush to bed.

Ahhhhhhhhh......

Ponytails!

A mom's gotta blog about her girl's first ponytails...

(By the way, she wore them for almost an hour.)

Jingle Bells...

Ok, so it's not a one-horse open sleigh...but it's a sleigh none the less.

That's Adelaide in the front and her friend Emma behind.
Weeeeeeeeee!!!!!

Friends

Yesterday brought friends to our house for the start of a babysitting co-op. The idea is to have two moms watch four kids, while the other two moms take a break. Each week we will rotate the "off" moms. We will start the rotation next week.

This morning brings 16 degrees and about 3 inches of new, wet snow. All the county schools are closed. Patrick is off at ski patrol. Adelaide and I are hugging her babies.

Spinning!

Here is a snapshot into our day. It involves sprinning and a headband. Adelaide just discovered spinning. I tried to capture it this morning, but for some reason there is no sound. Sorry. But, it does give you the opportunity to pretend you are back in the silent movie era. (The picture brightens up soon).

Adelaide, as you know, loves her babies. She wanted me to put some clothes on this baby who was naked-so I picked out a bathing suit that was still in her drawer thinking it was the smallest thing we had. Well, of course Adelaide insisted SHE wear it after she saw the baby in it. Don't worry--our house is warm.

Good Times

On our way to Georgia we spent two nights in Hot Springs, NC. A small little town located at the junction of the Appalachian Trail and the French Broad River in a valley surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Pisgah National Forest. It was nice to get away and the weather was beautiful. We stayed in a little cabin on forty acres. The caretakers of the property had goats and chickens-the eggs were the best we had tasted! We enjoyed hiking some of the AT and soaking in the mineral baths. Our cabin was so cozy, but strangely enough, Adelaide loved sitting in the shower.
Our time in Atlanta was wonderful. We visited the Georgia Aquarium, Stone Mountain, and local playgrounds. We ate yummy food. But best of all was spending time with Marma, Randaddy, Conway, Eric, Christopher and Ava. Adelaide is still talking about everyone.

It is a winter wonderland here.

Have a wonderful holiday!

"Oooh Ahh"

This is an old video (summer). It was Adelaide's first attempt at singing. At that time in her life, she liked to pull clothes out of the laundry basket (hence the props in her hands).
It is hard to hear the music in the background, but she really is singing to it.
Enjoy.

Sunday, I mean Snowday

Cold temps and snow have kept us inside most of the day.

We have spent the day singing, dancing, coloring, making balloon sculptures, reading, eating, relaxing, and playing with the baby dolls, oh and stickers.

This is my new "flower hat" (below). Adelaide indulges me with my balloon sculptures-usually hats. We both have static hair after we wear them. I know I shouldn't be filling up the landfill with latex, but what is a girl and a toddler to do on a cold, snowy day such as this, but make balloon sculptures?

The Adventures of Adelaide

Let the Adventures of Adelaide blog begin...

Yesterday brought a sunny, warm day in the high 50s. We knew a cold front was moving in over the weekend-snow in the forecast-so we tried to take advantage of the weather. We didn't make it too far, though. (To the end of the driveway to be exact). Let the puddle jumping "splashing" begin!
